SUVs in India aren’t a very uncommon concept, but among all there are a few that have been ruling Indian roads right from the day they were launched. SUV segment has been on rapid rise in Indian automobile market in recent year. The ample of space, strength, and the muscle to pass through all kind of terrains are some of the qualities that have made it an all-time wanted vehicle among all Indians. This section grew so well in last few years that every single carmaker is now getting desperate to make and entry and earn some revenue. The charm of this section has extended to that level that even evergreen carmakers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have entered this field to claim their share. But despite such high competition and new entries now and then, there are some players that have ruled this segment since they hit floors. Let’s have a closer look at them.
Tata Safari Storme: One of the oldest and most muscled player in Indian SUV section and is still ruling competition with hefty sales figures. The price range of this SUV in India starts from Rs.10.2 lakhs and extends up to Rs.14.4 lakhs. It is available in four trims all supported by diesel and manual transmission and delivers a mileage of 10-12kmpl.
Renault Duster: Launched over a year ago, this car brought the name in limelight overnight. The name that was hardly known out of automobile enthusiasts circle suddenly became a common household name within 2-3 months. The height of its success was documented by the fact that within 10 months the French carmaker reported a growth of 12 fold. Available in the price range of Rs.8.14 lakh to Rs.12.43 lakhs this car was yet the cheapest SUV available in Indian market.
Mahindra XUV500: After Scorpio, it is the second most popular SUV from Mahindra that is best choice among Indian SUV admirers. Available in price range of Rs.11.85 lakhs – Rs.14.36 lakhs, it provides an appreciable mileage of 12-14kmpl. Mahindra recently revealed its latest version with lower ground clearance to save itself from paying extra excise duty of 3%.
Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton: A rather expensive and luxurious car, it is the first offspring from collaboration of Mahindra and South Korean major Ssangyong. This SUV was received in Indian with a warm enthusiasm and warmth. The price range of this SUV starts from Rs.18.78 lakhs and it is available in two trims. Supported by a manual and automatic transmission, this SUV provides a mileage of 12-14kmpl with the former and 10-11kmpl with the later transmission type respectively.
Skoda Yeti: Again a premium SUV, it has been admired for its robust looks which perfectly complement its sporty exteriors. It is most admired for its all-wheel drive along with an optional 2 wheel drive, its highly economical diesel power train, high ground clearance, and high comfort level. Launched back in 2009, it has been much admre3d and is still a fat revenue earner in Skoda’s clan.
